Name: MU Extension--Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention
    Date: November 24, 2021
    Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM CST
    Event Description:
Just over 30% percent of Stone County’s population is 65 years of age or older. This is the highest older adult populations in Southwest Missouri and almost double the amount in Missouri and the nation.  For this reason, Stone County residents have unique needs.  One health concern among older adults is the interest in preventing falls and maintaining health.  The University of Missouri Extension, Stone County OACAC, and the Kimberling Area Senior Center have partnered to provide falls prevention programs starting this month

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention (TCAFP) is a safe and effective exercise program that improves health of the mind and body. The program is being offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Kimberling Area Senior Center starting October 29th (skipping November 24 & 26).  TCAFP is an evidence-based exercise program with many health benefits.  It combines gentle physical exercise and stretching with mindfulness.  Tai Chi exercises the joints, muscles, and internal organs while simultaneously strengthening the mind.  The slow, fluid, and gentle movements improve muscular strength, flexibility, and fitness, as well as relaxation, balance, posture, and immunity.  Tai Chi is appropriate for individuals with or without arthritis, joint and muscle pain, or elevated risk of falling.  A registration fee of $50 is required by October 27 to cover the cost of the 20-session program.  Stone County OACAC is able to cover the cost of this program for qualifying individuals through their Goal Getters program.  Those interested in receiving assistance for this program should call 417-272-0588 to get qualified.
